We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization working to preserve dark skies for future generations. Our foundation is run by passionate, highly motivated, students based in Los Angeles, California.
Coming from an urban area, we are working to preserve dark skies from the ever-growing spread of light pollution. For some, dark skies are necessary for research and exploration. For others, dark skies are a source of wonder, inspiration, and culture. Nonetheless, we believe they should be preserved for the future to cherish.
We protect dark skies to prevent negative consequences to humans and the environment. Furthermore, dark night skies have been an inspiration to many throughout human history. One life-changing experience with the universe may spark inspiration to pursue a space-related career—astronomy, astrophysics, astrophotography, and more. After seeing the Milky Way in all its glory for the first time in Cleveland National Forest in 2019, Don was inspired to start this project.
If we protect the night skies, future generations may get the experience to be inspired by the night skies as well.
Founder
Don, an incoming student at Brown University, is the founder of Hidden Skies Foundation and part of the DarkSky Advocate Network for protecting dark skies. A former NASA intern and ardent musician, he is involved in theoretical astrophysics research, enjoys playing piano, and has developed quite an affinity for amateur astrophotography through his dark sky advocacy work. One may also catch him concocting yet another whimsical pasta sauce, dabbling in modern art creations, or contemplating Aristotelian ethics with companions who are willing to listen.
Max is a student at Harvey Mudd College and the publicist for Hidden Skies Foundation. He directs social media, photograph events, and leads creative designs. He is a photographer who especially enjoys shooting the night sky, making this project so important to him. He also plays baseball, basketball, drums, and guitar.
Luke is a an incoming student at the Univeristy of California, Santa Cruz, who has a passion for robotics, night skies, and basketball. He, along with his classmates, are working to preserve night skies for future generations to enjoy.
An incoming student at Princeton University, Vito writes most of Hidden Skies Foundation's blogs in his unmistakably eccentric fashion. He enjoys studying both biology and chemistry and playing the viola. Additionally, he holds the preservation of wildlife and the environment to a high degree. In his free time, he collects sporks, cuddles with his collection of enlarged stuffed bacteria and prehistoric creatures, and studies the gastrointestinal tract.
